A Cardiff resident is celebrating after landing £10,000 every month for a year in a recent National Lottery draw. The local winner matched five main numbers in the Set For Life draw on Thursday 1 January 2026, securing the top prize of £10,000 a month for 12 months.

Speaking about the moment he discovered the win, the Cardiff man said he had to double-check the National Lottery app several times before the total sank in, describing the experience as “totally surreal”. He plans to put the money towards a few extra holidays and some home improvements over the coming year.

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, congratulated the winner and said he hopes the monthly payments will help make those plans a reality.

Set For Life offers players the chance to win fixed monthly payments over a set period, rather than a one-off lump sum.

Tickets for National Lottery draws can be purchased online via the official app or website, as well as in authorised retail outlets. Players who buy online receive automatic ticket checking and email notifications if they win, while retail tickets can be scanned using the app.

Since launching in 1994, National Lottery players have helped raise more than £52 billion for Good Causes across the UK, supporting projects spanning arts, sport, heritage and community initiatives in postcode areas nationwide.
