A landmark development in Llandaff that will bring 44 new council homes and a new bus and rail interchange to west Cardiff has reached its highest point, with the Waungron Road scheme officially topping out.
The seven-storey building sits alongside Waun Gron Park railway station on the site of the former recycling centre. Once complete, it will be a mixed-use development with 44 highly energy-efficient one and two-bedroom council homes, commercial space and a new transport interchange.
Homes built for the future
The Waungron Road homes will include renewable technologies such as ground source heat pumps and solar photovoltaic panels. As a result, they should cut carbon emissions and lower energy costs for the people who live there. The scheme is being delivered through Cardiff Council’s Cardiff Living partnership with Wates Residential, supported by £7.7 million of Welsh Government Social Housing Grant funding.
Better connections, without the city centre
Alongside the homes, a purpose-built transport hub will link bus and rail more closely. A new access road will connect Waun Gron Park station with a dedicated bus interchange. This will make it easier to travel across Cardiff and between communities without having to go through the city centre. The interchange could accommodate buses on routes running west to south, north to south and west to east across the city.
