There’s a reason some venues become the go-to answer when someone asks, “So, where shall we go?” Flight Club Cardiff is one of them.
A recent night out with friends reminded me exactly why.
I headed into the city with Gareth – an almost professional dart player, or so he’d have us believe – and Yiannie, an excellent Barry barber whose darting credentials extended to having barely played before. Which, as it turned out, made for exactly the right mix of confidence, chaos and competitive banter.
If you’ve never been to Flight Club, the concept is brilliantly simple. Take traditional darts, drag it firmly into the modern age, add slick technology, inventive cocktails, quality sharing food and an atmosphere that positively encourages laughter, and you have something far more engaging than your average evening out.
This isn’t a dusty pub dartboard tucked in a forgotten corner. Flight Club has reimagined the whole experience, turning a familiar pastime into something genuinely exciting, accessible and, dare I say it, slightly addictive.
From the moment we arrived, the mood was spot on. The venue strikes a clever balance between playful and polished, with interiors that nod to vintage fairgrounds while still feeling stylishly contemporary. There’s an instant buzz – the sort that tells you everyone is here for a good time – but it never tips into feeling chaotic or overwhelming. It feels social, energetic and unmistakably Cardiff on a good night.
What makes Flight Club so clever is that it removes every barrier that might put off newcomers. Their Social Darts system handles the scoring, introduces different games, and generally eliminates the faff that can suck the fun out of traditional darts. No questionable arithmetic. No “helpful” score adjustments from overly competitive mates. No debates about what actually happened.
Just pick up a dart and get involved.
And that’s precisely why it works so well.
Gareth may have approached proceedings with all the swagger of someone expecting a lucrative sponsorship deal, but Yiannie – clearly more accustomed to precision with clippers than tungsten – was soon fully in the mix. That’s the joy of the format – you don’t need to be good to have a fantastic time. In fact, being wildly inconsistent may actually add to the entertainment.
Naturally, the competitive instincts kicked in quickly.
There’s something gloriously satisfying about celebrating a lucky shot as if you’ve just won the World Championship, especially when your audience includes someone who actually knows what they’re doing.
But great venues need more than a clever gimmick, and this is where Flight Club genuinely impresses.
The food, frankly, was far better than many entertainment-led venues manage.
Too often, food in these settings feels like an obligation – functional rather than memorable. Here, it’s clearly part of the experience.
We ordered with enthusiasm, leaning firmly into the sharing format that suits this kind of evening perfectly.
The Buffalo Chicken Wings delivered exactly the sort of sticky, satisfying kick you hope for, while the Korean BBQ Wings brought a rich sweet-savoury depth that disappeared from the table with alarming speed. The nachos were generously loaded and ideal for communal grazing between rounds, while the Loaded Tandoori Fries were indulgent, gloriously messy and utterly impossible to ignore.
Then came the pizzas.
Pepperoni is always a reliable crowd-pleaser, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint, but the Tandoori Chicken Pizza was perhaps the unexpected star – a flavour-packed twist that worked remarkably well and felt just that little bit different from standard pub fare.
It all felt considered, properly prepared, and worthy of the setting rather than simply there to fill a gap.
And then there were the cocktails (we do love a cocktail).
Flight Club clearly understands that a memorable night out isn’t just about activity – it’s about atmosphere, and drinks are part of that equation.
The Fairground Old Fashioned was a fitting opener, leaning into the venue’s playful personality while still delivering the sophistication you’d want from a proper cocktail. Dancing on Ice Tea proved dangerously drinkable, while Life’s a Peach brought something fruitier and lighter to the mix. Hibiscus Kiss added a floral flourish, and the intriguingly named Hot Peach also made an appearance.
Collectively, the cocktail menu feels imaginative without trying too hard – polished, fun and very much aligned with the overall experience.
Service throughout the evening deserves genuine praise.
It’s easy to underestimate how much coordination goes into venues like this. Food, drinks, multiple groups, gaming slots, a busy atmosphere – there’s plenty of scope for delays or confusion.
Yet everything moved with impressive smoothness.
Orders arrived promptly, staff remained upbeat and approachable, and the pacing of the evening felt effortless. There were no frustrating gaps where the energy dipped or moments where we found ourselves wondering where the next round had gone.
That kind of seamless service can make or break an experience, and here it absolutely elevated it.
But perhaps the biggest compliment I can pay Flight Club Cardiff is this: it creates genuine atmosphere.
Not manufactured fun.
Not forced energy.
Actual atmosphere.
The kind that comes naturally when people are genuinely enjoying themselves.

Across the venue, there were celebrations, groans, laughter, mock accusations, near-triumphant victories and dramatic collapses in form. It’s infectious without being rowdy, lively without losing its sense of style.
And that’s why it works for such a broad audience.
This would be a brilliant date night.
A superb birthday venue.
An inspired work social.
Or simply a much-needed excuse to gather friends and do something more memorable than the usual drinks circuit.
Cardiff has no shortage of decent places to eat and drink, but venues that deliver a genuinely distinctive experience are a different matter.
Flight Club absolutely does.
By the end of the evening, Gareth’s darting reputation had taken a few dents, Yiannie had proved that beginner’s luck is a very real thing, and all three of us agreed we’d happily do it all again.
Which probably tells you everything you need to know.
Five stars? Without hesitation.
Flight Club Cardiff doesn’t just hit the bullseye – it makes the whole night feel like a win.
